As someone who is committed to operating towards a just, sustainable future for all, Layla centers her work around making communications more accessible and equitable. Coming from an academic background at the intersection of the arts and the environment she has pursued a plethora of projects, ranging from researching the impact of AI's water consumption and its ethics, to exploring the importance and impact of environmental literature on protest and change. Professionally, she has a background in both industries as well, particularly working in sectors of alternative energies and ocean conservation, always interested in finding and working through the intersectionality of these issues and more.

Layla’s notable experiences include:

  • Supported water desalination start-up Seawards as a communications researcher. Layla helped to develop and edit their English website as well as conducted stakeholder and current field research, which provided her with a wide, international lens in the new energy sector.

  • Organized yearly beach clean-ups with local water advocacy group, Concerned Citizens of Montauk, for three summers in a row, which included promoting the event, contacting stakeholders, site scouting, and creating marketing materials.

  • Assisted in planning Equinor Windscape Brooklyn’s grand opening, an interactive learning center about offshore wind education. She gained experience in event planning, aiding with the runs of shows, prepping materials needed for the event, and day-of execution.

Layla graduated cum laude from NYU with Bachelor's Degrees in Environmental Studies and English, alongside a semester abroad studying Environmental Law and Environmental Monitoring at the University of Sydney. Outside of work she can be found reading, hiking, playing volleyball with friends, or at her local trivia night!

I’m excited to join ASC because of the intersectional approaches they take to each project they work on. They listen to both experts and community members equally, taking all fronts into account when creating that bridge for change. The work already feels really meaningful and impactful!"
